The flu severely threatens Pakistani infants, frequently hospitalized with flu-related illnesses.
The flu is a severe threat to infants living in Pakistan. They are frequently hospitalized due to flu and other illnesses.
During an influenza conference at AKU, Dr. Fyezah emphasized the importance of getting the flu vaccine for pregnant women and children under two.
This is particularly important for premature babies and children with conditions like cardiovascular disease or asthma.
Experts from the AKU, Qalab, Ali Faisal Saleem, and Indus hospitals, such as Dr. Samina Junijo and Dr. Qalab, were present at the event. They all stressed the importance of timely vaccinations against the flu. Prof Fatima Mir led a panel, and there was a question-and-answer session.
The lack of testing facilities makes diagnosing Influenza in young children difficult. Dr Waseem Jamalvi, President of the Pakistan Paediatric Association of Sindh, said: “Influenza is deadly, but often undiagnosed.” Early diagnosis and treatment are key in reducing the number of fatalities.
Prof Fatima noted that although Influenza can be prevented through vaccination, severe consequences often result if it is not treated. It can put children on ventilators and in the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit).
